Firuza Akabirova, spokeswoman, Uzbekturizm national company
The action plan on development of cooperation in tourism has been signed on May 16 in New Delhi by the head of the Indian Tourism Department Cooperation Dr Lalit K. Panwar and chairperson of the National Company Uzbekturizm Rustam Mirzayev.
The new document calls for to activate the cooperation in the sphere of tourism between two countries through increasing the tourist streams in two directions, expanding information cooperation, creating joint tourism ventures. The establishing of Representative offices in each other’s country will favor the effective work in the sphere.
The action plan envisages the development of the infrastructure, organization of projects on education and re-training of personnel, production of goods, souvenirs, equipment and stock for promotion of tourism wherever the viability exists and organization of advertising and other promotional activity. Furthermore, it is planned to organize the exchange of tour operators and media who would highlight the tourism potential of each other’s country.
It should be noted that the first agreement on cooperation in the field of tourism between India and Uzbekistan was signed in 1993. In 2005, Uzbekturizm NC and the Tourism Administration of India signed a Protocol of Intention for Cooperation in Tourism.
Uzbek-Indian relations on tourism have a big potential: Indian tourists get interested in the Uzbek culture, while Uzbek ones – in India opportunities. Regular flights play no less important role as well favoring the activation of the tourist exchange between countries.
