The delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Deputy Prime Minister A. Abdukhakimov continues its participation in the 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Baku.
On 30th June this year, several meetings were held with the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, Director of the World Heritage Centre Mechtild Rössler, Deputy Director Jyoti Hosagrahar , as well as representatives of member countries of the World Heritage Committee.
The sides noted the importance of protecting the cultural heritage of the country, the measures taken to preserve historical sites, as well as the development of tourism and education, presented new opportunities for cooperation to strengthen relations between the sides.
Representatives of the Committee appreciated the course taken to strengthen further close cooperation with UNESCO and its structures.
In August 2019 in Samarkand, on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, an international conference dedicated to the preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage is held. The purpose of the event, involving the participation of a large number of international experts, including UNESCO, as well as national experts and representatives of the scientific community, institutions and civil society organizations, is to develop a new vision in addressing the protection and conservation of world heritage sites, as well as further support for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage.
UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay confirmed her intention to participate in the event.
